Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,

On February 20th I was the primary victim of a large propane explosion on a Gulf Island in British Columbia. I suffered blunt force to the face, as well as severe burns to my face, legs, and hands. I am currently at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, B.C., recovering multiple skin graft surgeries as a result of these injuries. I have yet to be given an estimated discharge date. I have very limited use of my fingers and legs. Due to the nature of my hand injuries I have not been able to use any electronics for the past two weeks, and am unable to return to Kingston until discharged. It is for these reasons that I request the ability to withdraw from the current semester without academic or financial penalty.

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: If granted, I will have to repeat the entire semester again - although around half of the coursework for most courses had been completed by the time I had my accident, I am prepared to redo this work. Furthermore, as physiotherapy and occupational therapy at the hospital continue, the use of my hands should return swiftly. I then have the option of taking an online course (MATH 121) in an attempt to not get too far behind in my studies. When I have recovered fully, I aim to return to campus to finish the degree I have been working so hard to earn.
