Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: During mid-May, my family received a call from South Korea regarding my grandfather's terrible health condition. As a result, my brother, mother, and I immediately booked flights from Canada to Korea and went straight to the hospital at which my grandfather was hospitalized. I was so close to him and was therefore devastated to see him so weak and fragile. He was not able to eat well nor go to the washroom by himself. Ever since, I was not able to focus on my studies nor my daily life. I was dazed and unable to do anything but be by his side and help take care of him. He underwent several kidney surgeries but because of his age being over 80, was not able to withstand them all and unfortunately passed away two days ago.
I am still grief-stricken. I cannot believe that my grandfather who was so dear to me is no longer there for me. When I finally began to bring my thoughts back together, I realized that I had paid zero attention to my online summer course. I do not think that I will be able to recover quite fast enough to continue and finish off the course successfully. I am terribly worried about my grades and wish to do well in my studies but right now have missed two assignments and a midterm. Thus, I am writing this letter of appeal to ask if it would be possible to drop the course although it is a few days past the course drop date.
It would mean so much to me if anything could be done.
