Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to bring to your attention the challenging circumstances I faced during the fall of 2023. These circumstances led me to request a retroactive discontinuation of my courses from the previous semester despite the deadline for discontinuation.
I am Assane Kaba, a student of Global Development at Queen's University, enrolled in the online Faculty of Arts and Sciences. Studying at Queen's has been an excellent opportunity, allowing me to continue my education with more excellent continuity. The curriculum and courses genuinely interest me, and the support I have received from QSAS has been exceptional.
Unfortunately, two situations arose during the fall semester that directly affected my ability to follow my courses. The first situation was due to an accident in my dominant arm, which severely impacted my mobility and made it difficult to carry out tasks. The accident occurred unexpectedly, and the ensuing rehabilitation took longer than anticipated. This situation was compounded by an existing diagnosis, which made my recovery more challenging and prolonged.
The second situation was my intermittent hospitalization during the fall semester. My physical and mental condition made it impossible for me to attend classes, and I was unable to drop my courses because I was in the hospital. These situations made things worse following the course drop deadline.
Attached to this application is a medical certificate that shows the challenges I faced during the last term. I am currently resuming my studies on a part-time basis due to the lengthy period of recovery. However, I am determined to graduate from Queen's and overcome any obstacles that may come my way. Therefore, I am writing this letter to request that my courses from the previous semester be removed from my schedule retroactively so that I can start afresh.
Your attention to this matter is highly appreciated. Please feel free to contact me if you require any further information.
Yours faithfully,
Assane Kaba
