Petition Letter

Petition Letter: I am petitioning to drop HIST 286 (Fall, 2023). I have permanent accommodations for Post Concussion Syndrome through QSAS that include extensions when I have symptom flare-ups. On November 17th, I hit my head and suffered a new concussion. It was recommended that I take a brief leave of absence from school following the injury due to the severity of symptoms immediately following the accident. I was assessed by a Dr. Julia Greenfield at Student Wellness on November 29th, and was cleared to slowly reintroduce activities and symptom triggers into my daily routine (including screens, sounds, lights, school, physical activities). Because of the concussion, I had extensions on assignments lasting until December 21st. I had originally intended on meeting this deadline and I did not intend on dropping the course. On December 16th, there was a sudden death in my family which impeded my ability to finish these outstanding assignments. I went home at this time to be with family, and mentally was unable to focus on my studies.

I was able to finish FREN 230 (Fall 2023) and FREN 241 (Fall 2023) because all assignments in those courses were already completed before the date of the death.

I intend on retaking this course or a course of equal value to my History degree plan in the future.
