Petition Letter: Hello, my name is Anosha. I enrolled in CHEM281 twice, initially during the summer of 2022 and then again in 2023. In the summer of 2022, I was taking the course online from Ottawa. Unfortunately, during that period, Ottawa experienced a tornado that resulted in a power outage. Living in the western outskirts, my area was low priority for power restoration. This left me without internet access, and local libraries and coffee shops were also closed, hindering my ability to study. Additionally, fuel shortages led to long waiting times and minimal availability, making it impossible for me to relocate. Consequently, I missed two weeks of the six-week course. Although Dr. Carran offered accommodations, they were insufficient considering I missed a third of the course. I also missed the deadline to drop the course, leading to the advice that the best course of action was to attempt passing, which resulted in a grade of C.

Recently, I learned about the possibility of a late drop. Given the exceptional circumstances of 2021, I believe my request for a late drop would have been granted had I applied then. The disaster was beyond my control, and despite efforts, the power restoration was not swift enough. I respectfully request that the late drop be approved, considering the extraordinary situation I faced during that time.
