Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: In May, our family received a call from South Korea regarding our grandfather's serious health condition. So, my mother, sister, and I immediately came to Korea to see our grandfather in the hospital. There were no family members that could take care of him throughout the day, so we must stay with him as much as possible. We are all devastated to see him in such condition. Since my sister and I arrived in Korea, we were not able to focus on our studies nor daily life. He underwent several kidney surgeries, but because of his age of 83, his body couldn't stand it and he has passed away.

After his funeral, I realized that I had not done any of the online course that I had signed up for before coming to Korea in such a rush. I missed two assignments and a midterm, and do not think I will be able to recover fast enough to continue and finish the summer course successfully. I am very worried because this course will take a heavy impact on my GPA.
Thus, I am writing this letter of appeal to ask if it would be possible to drop this course although it is past the course drop date.

I realized that I should have paid more attention to my education, but I could not do so and I apologize for that. If anything could be done, it would be very appreciated.
