Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Dear Queens University,
I am writing to urgently submit a petition to drop the GPHY 242 course for the past semester. I was under the impression that I had submitted a petition back in November as I had missed the drop date by two days from the official course drop deadline but as I reached out to the administration for an update on my petition I was told that none was received thus I am resubmitting my petition.
This semester has presented unforeseen challenges, particularly with regard to my enrolment in the GPHY 242 course. When I initially registered for this class, I held high hopes that it would align with my academic interests and success as I had stated to the administration in regard to my academic probation and contribute meaningfully to my educational journey. However, as the weeks progressed, it became increasingly evident that the course content and structure did not meet my expectations and was quite out of my learning field.
Despite my earnest efforts to engage with the material and adapt to the demands of the course, it has become clear that the content does not resonate with my academic aspirations or interests. The subject matter, which I believed would delve into aspects of international relations and globalization akin to my positive experience in a geography course last year, has instead taken a markedly scientific and mathematical turn. This misalignment has made it incredibly challenging for me to remain motivated, engaged and understand the coursework.
Furthermore, I am writing with the added urgency of being on academic probation. Given my precarious academic standing, I am deeply concerned about the potential ramifications of this course. As I strive to rectify my academic performance and demonstrate improvement, I am adamant about not letting one course jeopardize the entirety of my academic year.
As someone who deals with persistent anxiety, the challenges presented by this course have only exacerbated my condition. The constant pressure to excel in a subject that does not align with my strengths has taken a toll on my overall well-being, making it increasingly difficult to manage my academic responsibilities effectively.
In light of these circumstances, I ask for your understanding and empathy in granting an exception to the course drop deadline. I am fully prepared to accept any financial repercussions that may arise from this decision. My primary concern is to salvage my academic progress and prioritize my mental health during this challenging period.
I kindly request your prompt attention to this matter and would be grateful for your support in navigating this difficult situation. If necessary, I am more than willing to provide additional information or documentation to further substantiate my petition.
Thank you for your understanding and consideration.
Warm regards,
Aya Louaye
