Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I am a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Princeton University, gpa 3.95, and master's degree recipient from Queens(2016) with gpa4.0. I have taken extensive courses in French, German and comparative Literature from ivy league universities and am currently pursuing French Studies coursework towards acceptance to McArthur College next year. My average for 3 courses last semester was A+. I received an A+ for an English course through Athabasca last January. My average in classes this term has been A+. Prof. Rouget's assigned grade of B for what I consider an excellent paper with a sophisticated and original thesis, a mature and conceptually dense argument culling support from numerous well-known critical sources to support my argumentation is not only glaringly inconsistent with performance ratings by all other profs here and at ivy leagues in the US, but falls critically short of demonstrating responsible review of and appreciation of the maturity of my analysis. His commentary shows a cursory reading at best, a failure to follow the complexity and conceptual points put forward. Requests to replace an overview summary in my introduction with textual quotes runs counter to all accepted protocols for writing; his request for developing a section on p. 6, with no regard to the fact that it WAS developed 5 lines later, shows a continuing failure to engage candidly and responsibly with my paper. There is no acknowledgment of the lengthy bibliography, the obvious additional work put into extended research, the conceptual sophistication of my approach, the detailed analyses and textual supports, the balanced approach, the elegant writing and the adherence to stipulated instructions with choice of subject and approach to styling the subject in an individual, original way. The glaring inconsistency with the reception of my work by other profs at Queens this and last semester begs the question. His failure to acknowledge the sophistication of my work is apparent in numerous exchanges and his grading of 2 intensive term tasks, including an oral presentation in which I again far exceeded normal class expectations by bringing in middle high German textual references and medieval French textual references. As acknowledged by other profs, like Joanne Benard and Francesca Fiore, the quality of my work is high above that of other students in the class, soaring at a graduate level maturity. My stellar academic record certainly supports these statements. As my paper was returned April 1, I lack the time to request an informal review by the prof. I also fear that approaching him with this request will result in further discrimination against me and a lower grade for the upcoming final exam. I feel his conduct demonstrates potential discrimination against a disabled individual, with laxity in evaluation protocols that stand glaringly out against the performance of his peers. I have shared my numerous physical ailments with him - sending him a lengthy document containing specifics prior to obtaining formal QSAS accommodation for pains in hands, eyes and stamina issues. I have not had to ask for extensions or any other accommodations, save the use of a keyboard for testing, but I feel that his conduct may be influenced by his sense of my outsider status. I request an alternate grader for the paper submitted for the course. I cannot rewrite the paper, as I begin an intensive course of summer instruction at RMC in May. I will try to provide as much documentation in support of my statements as possible, including transcripts from Princeton(BA), Stanford, Queens(MA), screen shots of grades in other courses.
