Petition Letter: I am writing to request permission to drop the STATS 263 course after the drop deadline due to extenuating circumstances that have significantly impacted my ability to continue with the course.
Over the past few months, I have been grappling with a series of extenuating circumstances that have significantly impacted my ability to effectively manage my coursework. My challenges emerged prior to the February reading week when I was informed of family implications, resulting in my swift return to Vancouver to address these issues. After my familial situation over the reading week, I have returned to campus and have had an overwhelming amount of instability regarding my mental health, finding it difficult to always prioritize my academics and despite my best efforts to address them, they have persisted and intensified over time.
The stress and strain caused by these circumstances have taken a toll on my mental and emotional well-being, making it increasingly difficult for me to concentrate on my studies and maintain the necessary focus and commitment required to succeed in STATS 263. Despite my best efforts to stay on track, it has become clear to me that continuing with the course at this time would only lead to further academic setbacks.
I want to assure you that my decision to petition for permission to withdraw from STATS 263 is not one I have taken lightly. I understand the importance of completing my academic requirements and am fully committed to making up for the missed credits by taking the course in a future semester or exploring alternative options to fulfill my academic requirements. I understand the importance of completing my academic requirements and I am dedicated to ensuring that I fulfill my academic requirements despite the challenges I am currently facing. To make up for the missed credits from dropping STATS 263, I plan to enroll in the course during the summer or a future semester. Additionally, I have already taken steps to enroll in STAM 200 for the summer term. Unfortunately, my current enrolment in STATS 263 has prevented me from proceeding with this plan. However, I remain committed to exploring alternative options to fulfill my academic requirements and will continue to seek opportunities to do so.
In light of the current circumstances, I do not have formal documentation to provide as I am still in the process of seeking professional assistance and have not yet received any official diagnosis. However, I am willing to offer my flight history as evidence of my abrupt departure during the February reading week due to family implications. Additionally, I am committed to providing any further information or documentation as it becomes available throughout the course of seeking the required aid.
As part of the petition review process, I am aware that course instructor such as Charles Molson and other university personnel possessing pertinent information, such as Ryan Snowdon (academic advisor), may be consulted. I have already enlightened both individuals on my current scenario and are up to date.
Thank you for your understanding and consideration of my request. I Please feel free to contact me if you require any additional information to support my petition.
