Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,
I am petitioning to extend the incomplete grade status on my essay for ENGL 466.
The extenuating circumstances that I have been experiencing at this time are a private matter, and I would rather not provide the details of my care that I have been receiving, however they have required psychological support from healthcare professionals, and is something that is improving with time. The onset of these circumstances which are ongoing intensified during the Fall term of December 2023. During this time, my concentration and focus, as well as capacity for facilitation and coordination have all been moderately impaired and impacted my ability to complete assignments and coursework to regular deadlines.
I have been utilizing support with health care providers and counselors in and out of Queens Student Wellness Services throughout my degree to support various circumstances, mental health and otherwise. I have been attending regular mental health appointments at Queen’s Wellness since the onset of my functioning impacts. Because I have been engaged in treatment and I have been focused on it, I have been unable to focus on my academic work on a regular timeline however I remain committed to finishing this course.
I have one outstanding essay in the course and my professor, who is aware of the outstanding essay, is supportive of extending incomplete status on the assignment. After consulting with my professor they advised me to consider an extended deadline of September 15, the beginning of next term. This will allow me the summer, a time during which I have no courses, to complete it.
Regarding my future plan to coordinate working through my circumstances, I plan on continuing consistent treatment in counselling with Student Wellness Services. Treatment thus far has been very beneficial. I am also intending to continue with a reduced academic course load in the Fall of 2024.
I hope that you will receive my request and I appreciate your time on the matter.
Sincerely,
Victoria Chung
