Petition Letter: Hello my name is Liam Prendergast, and I am petitioning my grade for ENGL 215. Having been diagnosed with ADHD, I was recently prescribed medication to help me focus in class. With this prescription, I was also given temporary accommodations based on my psychology report. At my student wellness appointment I was told that these accommodations which included, extended deadlines, note takers, extra time on exams, writing aids, and occasional excused absences, would last until the end of the academic term. However, when midterms began in second semester my accommodations had been pulled and I had not even been notified. The accommodations were barely active for 2 weeks which does not make sense as ADHD is a permanent condition. As I was not made aware of my accommodations being pulled I wrote my midterms without them and found it extremely difficult. I made sure to reach out through the Ventus portal in hopes of making a follow up appointment to discuss the issue, however a series of cancellations and misunderstandings lead to me being unable to restore these accommodations with adequate time to inform my professors prior to final exams. I feel that if I had these accommodations throughout the semester I could have performed much better in my examinations and class activities. Extended deadlines for assignments would have allowed me to produce more thorough essays and extra time on the exam would have allowed me to complete the question in its entirety.
