Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear associates dean,

I am petitioning for a late course drop of PHYS 118 (summer, 2023). During the period I was enrolled in this course, I was undergoing a particularly challenging time as I faced the possibility of being required to withdraw from Queens University for a year. The stress and uncertainty of this situation significantly impacted my ability to perform academically as my focus was shifted towards appealing the withdrawal. Despite these challenges, I was committed to completing the course, believing I could manage my anxieties and hoping for a positive outcome.
In hindsight, this decision to continue with the course under such circumstances was not in my best academic interest. My focus and performance were severely altered, and I regret not recognizing earlier that dropping the course might have been a more sensible option. My intention was to push through the hardships to prove my resilience, but this ultimately did not reflect my true academic capabilities.
I have since been working closely with my psychologist on strategies to overcome my anxiety management which has proven successful as a reflection of my grades this fall and winter semester (2023-2024), and have come to the conclusion that applying for academic accommodations in the upcoming year will be beneficial for my academic success. Additionally, I plan to utilize resources such as ASUS peer tutors and QSASS services as support for my academic efforts.
Given these circumstances, I humbly request your consideration to late drop PHYS 118 (summer 2023). This action would significantly help in rectifying my academic record and more accurately reflect my true capabilities under normal circumstances.

I will attach a letter from my psychologist documenting my clinical impressions respective to the time.
