Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To Whom it May Concern,

Thank you for taking the time to review my case for academic appeals. I am petitioning to get a Credit Standing, as well as an Aegrotat Standing for the following courses: “MATH 280 (Fall 2023), MATH 281 (Winter 2024), MATH 210 (Winter 2024)”.

Explanation of Extenuating Circumstances:

During the academic year, I faced unforeseen personal and health challenges that significantly impacted my ability to perform academically. Specifically, I experienced a serious health condition, which is documented in a doctor's note. This condition hindered my ability to attend classes regularly, complete assignments on time, and effectively prepare for exams.

Throughout the semester, I made numerous attempts to seek assistance from my professors regarding the difficulties I faced with the course material. I reached out to my professors on several occasions, explaining my situation and requesting help. Despite my efforts, I received little to no effective support.

These extenuating circumstances were beyond my control and had a direct impact on my performance in MATH 280, MATH 281, and MATH 210. I could not drop these courses earlier due to the ongoing and unpredictable nature of my health issues, which I hoped would improve with time. Unfortunately, my condition did not improve as expected, which severely affected my academic performance.

Future Plan:

Moving forward, I have taken several steps to ensure that my academic progress will not be hindered by similar issues. I am now under a structured treatment plan with my healthcare provider, which includes regular medical check-ups and counseling sessions to manage my condition effectively. Additionally, I plan on consulting with my academic advisor to plan a manageable course load for the upcoming semesters, ensuring I do not overwhelm myself and can focus on my health alongside my studies.

If granted Credit Standing and Aegrotat Standing for the mentioned courses, I plan to try to be more serious about the next courses I need to take since these are prerequisites. I am confident that with the adjustments to my health management and academic planning, I will be able to succeed in the future courses and continue making progress towards my degree.

I appreciate your understanding and consideration of my situation.

Sincerely,
Ali Al-Safadi
