Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Dear Academic Associate Dean,

I hope this letter finds you well. I’m writing to petition the faculty’s decision that I must withdraw from Queen’s for a year.

Over the past two years, I have been grappling with severe mental health challenges. I received treatments starting in December 2022, but the treatments and medications prescribed to manage my condition had substantial side effects that impaired my ability to perform academically. Despite my best efforts, these factors led to outcomes that do not reflect my true capabilities and commitment to my education.

I plan to continue taking summer courses and complete them successfully, then proceed with my studies in the upcoming school year. Moving forward into September, I will transition into the regular program from the Honours program to better manage my workload and focus on making up for lost credits. This adjustment aligns with my goal of staying on track for graduation while ensuring I can successfully meet all academic requirements. By taking this approach, I aim to enhance my academic performance and effectively address the challenges I have previously encountered.

Considering my improved health and readiness to return to my studies, I kindly request that the faculty reconsider the decision to withdraw me. I believe that with the appropriate accommodations and support, I can achieve academic success and contribute positively to the university community.
