Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Hello, I am submitting to write an appeal to have my grade in Geology 104 receive and aegrotat standing. The reasoning behind this is because this past term I had been suffering from depression, anxiety and a severe concussion. Shortly before I was supposed to write my exams in April, my family doctor thought that it was best for all three of my conditions that I was suffering from if I did not write my exams in April and that they be deferred until a time when I was able to function enough to write them. After getting a note from my doctor I met with Haley Everson to talk about the process of deferring exams, she then emailed all of my professors for me to request a deferral. However my geology professor was away during this period and did not respond to the email from Haley, she then sent him another email in May with no response again. Currently on SOLUS it stats that I have failed geology because my professor did not see or did not respond to the email, so I am requesting to have that changed to aegrotat standing since we have not been able to get in contact with him. I have completed 60 of the course for Geology 104. I am currently seeing a neurosurgeon who is keeping track of the progress of my concussion recovery, and once I get her okay, I will be starting to prepare for my exams that I have deferred. My concussion was quite severe and there was no way that I would have been able to write my exams in April, I made it through the term with help from my professors and getting extra time on my assignments, but in the winter term I did not realize how sever my concussion really was other wise I would have taken the semester off to recover. With my concussion I would constantly have a pounding headache, feel dizzy, going to class would make me feel nauseous, as well as I was not able to focus, or concentrate and recalling information from my brain was extremely difficult and sometimes I would not be able to do it. I am currently having treatments including sacral cranial therapy, vision therapy, chiropractic treatment, and acupuncture therapy, as well as being monitored by a neurosurgeon. For my depression and anxiety that I have been suffering from since September 2013 I am seeing my family doctor every few weeks, she has me on medication which is helping and I am doing a lot better then I was in the Fall and winter semesters, and I also starting to see a psychologist to make sure that I am in the best state that I can be when I return to Queen¿¿s in the fall. I did not plan to have a concussion and anxiety and depression and I am doing everything I can possible do to get myself better so I would like to receive aegrotat standing in Geology 104 since there were so many extenuating circumstances that were out of my control as well as my professor not responding to the emails from Haley Everson requesting to defer my exam until I am better.
