Petition Letter

Petition Letter: I received a notice regarding an account balance of $762.87 for CHEM 281, which includes an off-campus exam fee of $100, a tuition fee of $608, and service charges totaling $54.

I expressed interest in enrolling in CHEM 281 but did not submit an application form. My circumstances changed unexpectedly when I was diagnosed with a repetitive strain injury (RSI) in my arms and advised by my doctor to refrain from all computer-related activities for a significant period. This was physically and psychologically stressful. Additionally, my partner and I were expecting twins, making it impossible for me to continue.

I want to clarify that I have completed five separate courses with Queens: Senior Biology, Senior Chemistry, Special Education Part I, Cooperative Education Part I, and Integration of Information and Computer Technology in Instruction Part I. I secured an A in all these courses. For each, I completed the online application form, made the payment, and pursued the course accordingly.

However, for CHEM 281, I never filled out an application form, attended any class, took any assignments or exams. Due to my physical condition, mental stress, and family commitments, I did not participate in the course at all.

Therefore, I do not understand why I am being charged $762 for a course I never pursued or attended. It is not ethically correct to demand fees from students who have never participated in a course due to extenuating circumstances beyond their control.

Kindly withdraw the notice, as I should not be paying for a course I never pursued due to medical and family reasons.

Thank you so much,

Himank Kumar, Ph.D., CAPM

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: I considered this course as an interest student solely for teacher certification, so it has no impact on my academic goals.
