Decision(s) Being Appealed: Request to take more than 6.0 units of courses on a letter of permission through another institution
Appeal Grounds
Appeals to the Board of Studies must include a letter based on one or more of the Grounds for Appeal (Appeal Regulation 3.4). What are the grounds you are basing your appeal on?
- The Associate Dean's decision did not follow the rules of procedural fairness. A breach of procedural fairness includes such things as the Associate Dean failed to:
- Make a reasonable decision in your appeal. A “reasonable” decision is one that is based on evidence, thought out and supported by facts and logical inferences from the facts. To be reasonable, the decision must contain adequate reasons for the conclusions.
Appeal Grounds Details: Just to begin I believe that the associate Dean acted fairly, I just had to click one of the options above or else I wouldn't be able to submit this. I say this because I didn't add the documents I have now to the appeal.
The associate Dean declined my appeal because she did not have the documents proving my injuries. I shall send these documents now so that my case can be readdressed an hopefully approved.
The Grounds of this is that I have many injuries and life issues that make it catastrophic for me to move back to Kingston to finish my degree and that I need to finish most of it at UOFT.

Appeal Letter
Appeal Letter: Academic appeal
Dear Board of studies
I am appealing to finish the remainder of my courses at UOFT St George.
My earlier appeal to the associate Dean was denied due to a lack of documentation proving my circumstances. I did not have this documentation at the time of my appeal.
The reason why I need to finish most of my schooling at UOFT is because I am unable to afford moving out and living in Kingston again and that moving out would uproot my family life and job in Toronto. Furthermore, it would be demoralizing returning to Kingston after leaving it years ago as a youth.
I am in this current situation because I led a sub par academic career earlier in my life and I ended up in academic probation during the beginning of covid (it was a difficult time for most). I had to take a year off my studies and since then I have taken one course per semester due to the limited choices of Queens online. It is taking me forever to get anywhere, it's humiliating, and I yearn to get my degree, join the proper workforce and make my parents proud at long last.
In the beginning of Covid I sustained injuries to both shoulders and both knees. Since then I have accumulated a further seven injuries. I have been diagnosed with shoulder impingements but the other injuries have gone mostly undiagnosed. Even the shoulder injuries have ‘gone away’ in the tests but the pain persists. The doctor suspects ‘chronic pain’ and I have been referred to the TAPMI clinic for pain. I have spent my life's savings on attempting to heal myself to no avail. Currently I work through the pain to do my job, to finish my studies and keep morale up. Despite this it has not been all in vain, the injuries may not be gone but I have discovered the willpower and the love for hard work and the pursuit of learning. I have significantly raised my grades since academic probation and have discovered the career I wish to lead. My dream is to seek courses that would qualify me for the procurement of Antiquities for museums and for my entrepreneurship goals. I am currently working tooth and nail setting up my own online businesses and I believe that my degree and qualifications would truly be the next step in helping me become an established entrepreneur.
I'm not trying to guilt you into doing anything, I am trying to let you know my current situation so that you know that I'm sincere and that you will hopefully take a chance on me and help relieve some of the burden that I carry. More importantly I hope you will take a chance on me so that you can be part of my success story.
Thank you very much.
