Hello Professor
I am writing an appeal for my grade today requesting a grade change from a 79% to an 80% to allow me to obtain the percentage which will allow me to be enrolled in the psychology major.
During the final exam of PSYC 100 there was a question that was given to the students that was not taught and furthermore caused me to get an extremely low grade on that question due to the fact it was material not discussed in lecture or reading and therefore I was unable to answer the question to the best of my ability. I am usually one to excel in long answer questions with my midterms long answer grades being an A- and a B+ but this question left me with a C- and seeing as it was a large portion of my final exam mark it brought down my grade tremendously. I can say with confidence If i would have been given the information and been able to study this material I would have been able to make better connections and obtain a much higher grade likely allowing me to obtain a mark that was above 80% and ultimately gaining acceptance into the psychology major.
It is also worth noting I spoke with a person after our midterm exam to discuss the long answer questions and I told him my concerns about how I struggle with multiple choice(both the quizzes and 1/3 of each of the exams) he eased my worry by explaining how all of this is considered and usually if this pattern is evident throughout the course in an individual's grades(this is shown in mine) they weigh the multiple choice a little less and written answer a little more). To my disappointment, this did not happen to my grade and if it did, I likely would have obtained the 80% that I needed.
To reiterate, I am a singular % away from the threshold and I am hoping that you can empathize with me given the circumstances of the exam take another look at my exams and successful course work to allow me this 80% to worked extremely hard to achieve
In no way am I attempting to place blame on the psychology department for the mistake on the exam but instead I am attempting to gain some leniency given the unfortunate circumstances in attempt to get the extra one percent that I am confident that I deserve. I understand that the department admitted everyone they could from the pending list based on grades but if the automatic threshold is an 80% for psyc 100 and a 3.0 culminative GPA and I had a 79% and a 3.5 GPA I am struggling to understand how many people could have been above me on the waiting list making it so my application got denied.
I am more than happy to schedule an in person or online meeting to discuss further if necessary I am just trying to advocate for myself in hopes my grade can be moved up a singular % because of the circumstances

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: My Academic plan has been set for me from a very young age. I plan to complete my undergrad in solely psychology and then go back to school for my masters in child psych in attempt to be able to work with children that are developmental and intellectually delayed. Therefore, my current pathway(joint honours with health and psych) will not set me up for the success I could have from being in a psych major alone. For reasons being, admission rates for graduate students in psychology are much higher and those pursuing a joint honours as well as the fact that my studies will be directed 50% to health which has little to no relevance to what I want to pursure as a job making psychology not have the focus I want it to have within my studies.
