Petition Letter: To Associated Dean of Studies of Arts and Science,
I am writing this appeal for the requirement for my withdrawal to be waived. Having a trauma of racism since middle school in Montreal, this trauma has affected my social life along with making friends. I have heard that Queen's is a racism free university, and thought it was till the first Friday of frosh week. Drunk students called me Chinese and showed rude behavior towards me (Shouting my name in weird behavior in front of my residence door). That triggered my fear towards racism that I experienced during middle school. The dons were nice people, however, I couldn't step up to ask for help to the dons because of my trauma. Thinking that I had no one to rely on, I've experienced depression and refused to leave my room. I hardly visited the cafeteria and leaned towards instant foods which were simply made with a water boiler, cup ramen. Right now, I'm frequently visiting the psychotherapist to help get rid of my trauma, so that I can have an improved mind-set when attending Queen's University.
On top of that, my grandmother, who was healthy, was told by her doctor that she got breast cancer, and was told that she needed surgery and special care. Having my parents far away in a different country and having lived half of my life with my grandparents, this issue struck me hard. I couldn't rely on my grandfather, because he too was undergoing his rehabilitation to fight his own cancer. During the past year, I visited Montreal many times to care for my grandmother. Thankfully, the doctor got rid of the cancer, and my grandmother is in her rehabilitation, and is going through radiation therapy. I am aware that I need proof for my health along with proof of my grandmother's health. I will attach a confirmation letter which I received from this psychotherapist which I am receiving treatment from. It is in Korean, however I will also send the translated English Version. Additionally, I have attached proof of my grandmother's medical condition.
Thank You for your consideration
Warm Regards,
Jeewoo Han

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: For my academic plan, I would like to pursue a degree in computing. I am currently taking MATH 121 and CISC 121 during the summer. Currently, I did pretty well on my first two in term tests, and pretty much all of my web works for MATH 121. I'm starting CISC121 in July. For the year, I'm planning to take JAPN 200, FILM 110, next level CISC, MATH 111, and MUSC 052. For strategies, unlike last year, I'm going to frequently ask questions to the professors, and use the forum more often. Also for subjects that I'm not confident with, I'm planning on getting a peer tutor. I'm re-taking courses which I am not confident in, and will try to visit the student health services when needed. Last year, I took 5 hard courses, which was out of my comfort zone, which had no relevance for the degree that I want to pursue. I got advice to try all sorts of subjects in my first year, which led me to be unsuccessful. Additionally, I was not 100 percent sure which degree I wanted to pursue, which was a small factor to why I listened to the advice and was taking five hard and irrelevant courses. However, having found the degree of my preference, CompSci, this year, I feel more motivated and excited and I guarantee to show my full potential towards my studies. I intend on taking a lighter course load as well this year. Instead of 5 courses per semester, I'm going to take 4.
