Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Hello,

I am writing to formally petition for a late withdrawal from my ECON 111 class due to extenuating circumstances beyond my control that have significantly impacted my academic performance. I understand the importance of meeting deadlines and fulfilling academic responsibilities but keeping up with all my classes after this break est rendu difficile.

In April of this ear, I experienced a severe medical condition with my right hand (complete TFCC ligament tear), which required me to take a complete break from school for over 9 weeks. This period of medical leave was essential for my recovery, but it also resulted in my inability to attend classes, complete assignments, and participate in any academic activities during this time.

The effects of my medical condition have been profound. I was unable to use my right hand to complete most of my daily tasks and this included most of the academic work, including writing, typing, and using a computer. This significantly hindered my ability to keep up with the ECON 111 coursework (labs, discussions, reflections, assignments). Despite my best efforts to catch up after resuming my studies, the backlog of missed work of many classes and the ongoing recovery process have made it impossible to perform to the best of my abilities in this course. Moreover, I have tried to reach the instructor on three different occasions in order to discuss some alternatives over the fast few weeks, but I unfortunately didn’t get a reply.

I have provided medical documentation to substantiate my condition and the duration of my incapacitation, throughout the Academics Consideration platform. Furthermore, I have been in consultation with healthcare professionals throughout my recovery (family doctor and OT), as evidenced by the attached letters from my doctors. Their recommendations for a gradual return to academic activities have also contributed to the delay in my coursework.

Given these circumstances, I kindly request an exemption from the standard withdrawal deadline and approval for a late dropout from my ECON 111 class. This measure will allow me to focus on my recovery and manage my other academic responsibilities more effectively without the additional burden of this course.

I appreciate your understanding and consideration of my situation. I am committed to my academic success and will use this time to fully recover and prepare for future coursework. Thank you for your time and support.
