Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,

My name is Valerie Partington. I am heading into my second year at Queens. I was unable to complete the final term of my first year as my father passed away unexpectedly. This has been the hardest summer of my life, dealing with his final wishes and trying to find my own joy again in the world. I am writing this letter to see if there is any possibility to wave my exams from last year as I didn’t get a chance to write them because I was in and out of the hospital for my fathers final two weeks and then the deferred period in may was impossible for me to make as I was talking with lawyers and I live over an hour away from campus. On top of the death of my father I was struggling last semester to get used to campus as I was attending Bader College before the unfortunate closure. I am in no way trying to get out of my exams because I don’t want to do them. I just haven’t been able to even look at any of my coursework as my father was one of my biggest supporters and it feels like I am now struggling alone. The choice to not defer the year was also very challenging and I am trying to get myself back into a position where I am ready to begin my schooling again. I have been receiving counseling for this situation and my therapist is the one who recommended I write this letter. I am requesting aegrotat standing in four out of five courses from last year: ENGL 100, PSYCH 100, CLST 150, and MUTH 111. I have completed the work for most of the courses and would pass them all without the exams. I do acknowledge what I am asking for is quite extreme but given the situation I feel as though I must for my own wellbeing.
