Petition Letter

Petition Letter: I am writing this appeal to discuss issues concerning three of my final grades from last semester, winter 2024. I have struggled with school for as long as I can remember, but have done everything in my power to cover it up. Last year I began to recognize that many of my struggles with school were synonymous with the signs of ADHD, so after a lot of thought and contemplation I began the testing process in January, finished the testing at the end of March, and received a diagnosis for combined ADHD in May. I received my diagnosis at the end of the school term, so during the winter semester I still have to complete my work without help or accommodations. This meant that I attempted to create my own best work environment. One of the ways I attempted to do that was getting help from my family. For a few of my courses that were assignment focused I asked my Aunt to submit my essays to the site for me, as time management is something that I tend to struggle with and this kept me accountable. This backfired as I later found out, because she did not submit these assignments properly, uploading them to the folder without actually saving it. This has resulted in 3 of my courses not receiving any of the course work that I have completed, and I have completed all of it. I only realized this error when I received the email that I would not be graduating in the Spring of 2024, and by that time I was already working at my summer camp where I had very little service and was about to embark on a 50 day long canoe trip where I did not have service of any kind. I sent emails to two of my professors before I lost service altogether and was unable to email my final instructor or see their responses. On trip my phone broke which ruined any hope of fixing my mistakes until I returned home. Now that I am my only priority is to attempt to remedy this confusion and misunderstanding. I know it is too much to ask for my work to still be marked, but it is all completed and I would be more than happy to share it with anyone who would like to see it, but I am pleading with you to wipe the three grades from my transcript. I have worked so hard to do well in school without knowing I had a learning disability working against me. I have dealt with major depression and depression episodes because of it; it has made every aspect of my life harder and I have been exhausted attempting to manage it on my own. It would break my heart to think that my attempt to ask for help has now put my entire future at risk. I am begging for you to show me compassion even though I know I am completely at fault. I love school and I want to pursue higher learning after my undergrad, but that will not be possible with three failed courses on my transcript. I am so sincerely sorry about all of complexities surrounding this specific case, I am now home and able to clear up any confusion. Thank you all so much for reading my appeal, I truly appreciate it.

Sincerely,
Julia Hampton-Davies
