Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I would like to thank you for taking the time to consider my petition today,

I am petitioning for the ability to take more than 6 units, 12 units / 4 electives through a transfer credit from the University of Athabasca to fulfill my undergraduate degree. During my first two years of academics at Queens I played on the varsity football team and was subsequently strongly urged by my coaches to take a reduced course load, unfortunately during the spring of my second year I suffered a life altering injury to my leg while practicing with the team that left me unable to walk for nearly two years and therefore unable to play on the football team. After that I began to take a full course load and summer courses to try and fulfill all of my course requirements for my major and my overall credit requirement with the intent of applying to law school this upcoming November and complete my degree via online courses from my hometown this fall. Unfortunately, during open enrollment this August 19th, I was unsuccessful in finding a sufficient number of courses online that not only fulfill my credit requirements but that also fit within my field of academic skill and prerequisites. Due to my previous understanding that I would be able to complete my degree via online courses through Queens, I have made no housing arrangements in Kingston and have taken on a a fulltime job in my hometown that I have worked extremely hard to get. I contend that this situation has left me in an extremely difficult position if I am unable to fulfill my final credit requirements through a letter of permission for 12 units. As I stand right now, I have enrolled in four electives in person at Queens for this fall as a plan if all else fails but I truly see no way I will be able to quit my job, drive across the province and find housing in time to start fall classes as I will be out of the country for the winter semester working as well. I would like to also highlight that the source of my intentions with this letter of permission and petition, if granted, is not from a desire to augment my GPA or circumvent a list of courses available at Queens I find merely uninteresting - it is out of a necessity that I be able to complete these credit requirements as a result of a general lack of options I was not aware of when applying. I believe, especially over my last two years of academics at Queens that I am a student with great academic standing which can certainly corroborate my previously stated intentions with this petition. Overall, due to unforeseen, truly extenuating circumstances, I am respectfully requesting that you consider this petition.
