Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,

I am writing to request approval to enroll in a full course load of five courses (15 units) during my upcoming semester abroad in Spain during the winter semester 2025.

Taking a full course load while studying abroad will allow me to meet the necessary credit requirements to graduate on time in 2026. As I am in my third year in Global Development Studies (DEVS) program, maintaining my academic schedule is crucial to avoid delaying my graduation.

The courses offered at SAE in Barcelona (and accredited through Jacksonville University) provide an exceptional learning experience that is not available at Queen’s University. These courses align closely with my interests and future career goals, particularly in areas such as international relations which are integral to my field of study.

Studying a full course load in Spain will allow me to be immersed in the local culture and academic environment, enriching my learning experience beyond the classroom. This immersive experience is a unique academic opportunity that I would not have at Queen’s.

Furthermore I believe that this experience will not only benefit my academic and professional growth but also contribute positively to my personal development.

Thank you for considering my request. I look forward to your approval and am happy to discuss any details further or provide additional information as needed.

All the best,

Drew Purdy

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: Below is my academic plan that covers the courses I need to graduate in 2026. I am currently on track with both my required DEVS courses and electives, and am also ahead by one course, which gives me a flexible buffer in my academic plan. This head start allows me to take advantage of the semester abroad without concerns about falling behind.

I am confident in my ability to handle a full course load, given my academic track record and the support available at both Queen’s University and at SAE Barcelona. However, should unforeseen circumstances arise, the flexibility gained from being one course ahead will allow me to adjust my plan without impacting my graduation timeline.

By enrolling in five courses during my semester abroad in Spain, I will fulfill remaining DEVS requirements and electives, ensuring that I graduate on time in 2026. This plan aligns with my academic and career goals, and I am fully prepared to manage the workload successfully.

Thank you for reviewing my academic plan. I am available to discuss any concerns or provide further details.
