Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,

I am writing to formally request a review of my final grade for the course Psyc 100 NS24, which I recently completed for the second time.

In my initial review of my final examination results, I calculated a passing grade of 53% based on the total marks I received throughout the course including the extra marks (because the extra marks doesn't turn a failling grade to a passing grade). However, I was later informed via email that a grading error had been corrected, resulting in a reduction of three points, bringing my final grade to 47% (not calculating the extra marks), just three points short of the required passing grade.

This outcome is particularly concerning as it mirrors my previous experience with this course, where I missed passing by four points. The repeated marginal shortfall raises the question of whether there might be some form of grade suppression or other factors I respectfully request that a thorough review be conducted to ensure that my work has been fully and fairly evaluated. This course is a full-year course. The first time I took it in person, I participated in all the labs. The second time I took it online during the summer, I completed all the weekly assignments.

As per the guidelines, I will attached all relevant documentation. I would appreciate it if my final examination, in particular, could be re-evaluated to confirm that all points have been accurately accounted for and that my answers were assessed appropriately.

I understand the importance of maintaining academic integrity and I am committed to accepting the results of a fair reassessment. However, given the circumstances and the repeated close margin, I believe it is fair to request a detailed review to ensure that my performance has been accurately reflected in my final grade.
