Petition Letter

Petition Letter: I writing to you today in hopes you can accept my petition to drop the failed courses: PHIL 111, and SOCY 122 from my record. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

In the fall-term right after Halloween my father had a tragic car incident resulting in multiple injuries. Based on the severity of his state doctors informed my family that he might not make it. I wasn’t made aware of what injuries he withstood at the time based on me being very emotional and overwhelmed.

At this time I had completely neglected my education at Queens to stay with him at the hospital, and shortly after, grieved his death.

I had missed my fall exam for philosophy, and done very poorly in the others based on my mental state fixating on his death, and obvious struggle to learn online. This drained me significantly as I love to learn, and take pride in my academics and extracurriculars. My record pre-university shows my ability to excel while competing as an international athlete. This sudden change was detrimental.

I was given academic probation for a year to not return for another year based on my GPA standing. I plan on staying very close to family this year and processing everything for my mental health, and working hard to support my family in holding an obituary.

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: My high school efforts were well rewarded in great marks and my extracurricular activities of student council and debate rewarded me in experiences. My love for school has been obscured based on the number of events pertaining to my father’s death, my attendance, and overall performance.

Looking back I do wish I had reached out to help provided by the school, however, at that time I felt the condolences would overwhelm me further. Exempting both classes listed above and waiving the year off from my record would help me come back to the school atmosphere in a positive manner.

My reaching out has been one of the biggest steps taken by accepting the events of my father’s death, and I have been reaching out to family members, and additional external help. This experience has taught me to never not ask for help when help Is needed.

Thank you.
