Petition Letter: Timeline of extenuating circumstances: October 3rd - November 5th
Mothers flight was booked for October 3rd, canceled multiple times, had to be flown out to greece Oct 18th, and was back in Canada october 19th. Though she was back in the country, I (Alexandra Mikhail) had to go back and forth to visit my family to take care of my younger brother during the time she had left, and after she arrived as the travel fees left my mother in serious financial struggles, and I had to hop in as a primary support for my younger brother, as well as my nephew who she took back with her. The severity of the extenuating circumstances I faced was extreme. My entire extended family and almost all immediate family is still in Israel (as we were the only ones to leave the country due to my family’s intercultural background which was not socially acceptable there; Arab Father and Jewish mother). We have family from all over the country, North district to south, and my grandparents are very old and sick, and missiles were being tossed very close to them. My older half brother also lives there, and has a 1 year old child, my nephew. He served as a commander for 7 years and left the military back in 2017 to pursue his engineering degree and became a project manager. Though due to the conflict, he was forced to go back to the army and serve for the country, leaving his child all alone, in which my mother took that role, and ended up taking her grandchild back with her. This time was extremely scary for myself, and with the additional stress of being in 6 classes to try and expedite my degree as I knew I couldn't financially afford another year of school left me extremely anxious and disheartened. I tried my best to do both, attending every mandatory class i had (Wet labs, and BIOL tutorials), though I ended up missing quite a few lectures which I tried to keep up with online, as well as chem tutorials as I knew they weren't worth many marks, which was not correct on my end, but it allowed me to travel (Mega Bus/ Train/ Car) at a cheaper rate to go back home. Additionally, my abilities to complete Chem112 were hindered as the global conflict took a stress on my entire life, in and out of school. I was near the verge of dropping out completely, but pushed through as I knew I couldn't afford another year. Every course I was enrolled in helped greatly, and all my professors (except 1) were extremely accommodating and helped me finish my courses with above a 50; though the only class I fell short of was chemistry. I am aware that the % I am missing for the degree is 6%, and with each tutorial being worth 0.5%, I feel as though maybe the tutorials I missed during this period could be amended.
