Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Queens University,

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to request permission to add courses this semester, despite being past the enrolment deadline. Over the summer, I worked relentlessly to regain my place at Queen's after being placed on academic probation. This involved submitting multiple petitions, advocating for myself, and proving that I had addressed the extenuating circumstances that impacted my academic performance. I fought hard to demonstrate that a year off would not be necessary, as I had taken significant steps to resolve these issues.

After putting in so much effort to secure my return to school, being unable to enroll in classes now would feel like an enormous setback. I am more passionate and determined than ever to succeed in my studies, and not being allowed to continue this semester would undo the momentum I’ve regained. My plan for this semester is manageable, as I would only be enrolling in three courses. One of these courses I’ve already taken, so I have all the notes and materials, meaning I would only need to catch up on two classes. I am more than willing to put in the necessary work to get up to speed and ensure that I make the most of this semester.

I’d also like to explain that the delay in registering for classes was not entirely within my control. I reached out to Arts and Science right after receiving approval for my petition to return to school, but I encountered difficulties with my SOLUS account. There was a hold due to my inability to select a plan, and I had to contact multiple departments to resolve this issue. Unfortunately, it took several days to receive responses from different departments, and ultimately, I was rejected due to my GPA—despite the fact that my petition clearly stated that my goal for this year is to raise my GPA.

After all the work I’ve done to regain my place at Queen’s, I am determined to make the most of this opportunity and not let this semester go to waste. I would greatly appreciate your support in allowing me to add these courses so I can continue to make progress toward my academic goals.

Thank you for your consideration, and I look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,

Aya Louaye

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: I intend to continue with political science, as it has been a subject of great interest to me. Additionally, I am considering adding a minor in Black Studies, which aligns with my passion for understanding diverse perspectives and global issues that align with my identity.

My primary goal this year is to raise my GPA. Both political science and Black Studies are paths I am deeply invested in, and I am dedicated to putting in the work to succeed in these areas. I believe that these fields of study will allow me to fully engage with topics I care about and help me reach my academic potential.
