Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: The reason that I am filling out a late course add petition, is due to an unusual academic event in Solus which did not grant me entry into the class because I am a second-year student. In the summer, I selected my major of Environmental Studies. Throughout first year, I was unsure what my major will be, and I was leaning more towards biology or geology, however I came to really enjoy Environmental Studies. When selecting classes, I saw that GPHY 101 was a first year course that I did not take first year. I decided I would take it second year, so as soon as classes opened I tried to add it, but It kept telling me that I did not meet the requirements to join the class and soon enough, the class became full. It wasn't until the second time class selection opened, when it did let me add GPHY 101 to my waitlist. I started 28th on the waitlist and routinely checked it daily. I understand how much this course means and how important it is that I NEED to take it this year, otherwise Id be taking two 1st year classes in my third year. I moved all the way to 2nd place on the waitlist when it closed, but after that, I could no longer see anything. I contacted the faculty of Geography which led me to an ASC advisor who told me to fill out this petition. Having this class is necessary for me and Ill take any spot in any class, even if it is online. I don't want to wait until next year, because there is no way to know that Solus won't let me add the classes again next year. I know from experience that first year lectures happen to have a lot of people absent and there is always extra space, and if this is the case for this class, I would gladly take it. I have done everything I can to get into this class and it would help my academic progress a lot of I were to get into this class, cause If not, I would only have 4 classes this semester and would have to add another class late.
