Committee of Academic Appeals
Queen's University
Department of Astronomy
Dear Members of the Academic Appeals Committee,
I am writing to request reconsideration of my grade in Astronomy 102 formally. I respectfully petition against my current grade of a fail, as it does not accurately reflect my academic ability or effort in the course. Unfortunately, my performance was severely impacted by illness on the day of the final exam, which was beyond my control. I was unaware I was able to petition a failed grade until now.
On the date of the exam, I experienced a sudden illness that left me physically unable to perform to my usual academic standard. This illness not only affected my ability to study effectively in the lead-up to the exam but also significantly impacted my performance during the exam itself.
I would also like to highlight that I successfully passed Astronomy 101 with a B+, demonstrating my competence in this field. Throughout Astronomy 102, my academic performance was strong, and I was consistently engaged with the course material. I believe that if not for the illness, I would have demonstrated my understanding of the material more effectively on the exam.
I fully understand the importance of maintaining academic standards, and I do not make this request lightly. I have taken steps to manage my health more effectively, and I am committed to avoiding a recurrence of this situation in the future.
Thank you for considering my petition. I appreciate your time and understanding and hope that you will take into account the extenuating circumstances that led to my academic difficulties. I would be grateful for the opportunity to discuss any further information you may require.
Sincerely,
Dyllon Coubrough
