Petition Letter

Petition Letter: At the start of the semester I had to undergo an unexpected medical procedure. This left me physically unwell for an extended period, making it difficult to engage with the course material. I wasn’t able to return to class until May 28. I did not let the course instructor know as it felt personal, however they gave permission for me to try and continue through the course. Despite trying to work through the course materials during this time, persistent symptoms made it hard to keep up with the required assignments and keep consistent attendance. Additionally, I faced some logistical challenges in the course, as crucial course communication related to changes in the syllabus or course structure was all done in person and not synced on OnQ. I wasn’t able to attend one of the field trips because I received an email the day that it would go past the class end time, 2:30, which would conflict with a crucial follow-up appointment I had to attend to address post-procedure symptoms. This was a difficult decision, as I was eager to participate, but I felt it was important to prioritize my health. This field trip was worth a large part of the grade and increased my struggle to stay on top of mandatory activities and complete course requirements. I want to emphasize that the lack of course structure and changing dates of activities made it difficult to complete the course, it was largely my unplanned medical procedure that most impacted my ability to keep up with the course. I am fully committed to my education, especially as I’m completing my final degree requirement, and really appreciate you reviewing my petition.
