Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to formally request a late drop for AGHE 803 due to unforseen circumstances that have profoundly impacted my ability to perform academically.

The ongoing war in Lebanon has caused immense personal and emotional hardship. My home village was destroyed, and I suffered the tragic loss of several family members. Additionally, I faced the ongoing responsibility of providing financial support to my family in Lebanon, which added to the emotional and logistical strain. These circumstances left me overwhelmed and unable to meet the expectations I had set for myself in this course.
The specific work affected includes a group presentation, for which I was unable to secure an assigned group, and several discussion posts that I struggled to complete amidst the instability. While I made attempts to seek counseling and regain stability, the unpredictable nature of the conflict made it difficult to focus on my academic responsibilities. With the recent declaration of a ceasefire, I am beginning to process these events and take steps toward recovery.

In hindsight, I regret not reaching out more to course coordinators to make my challenges known earlier. However, the nature of these events made it genuinely difficult to talk about at the time. I am now making a conscious effort to heal, improve, and be more proactive in seeking support moving forward.

To support my petition, I will attempt to locate additional documentation, such as death certificates or other relevant records, in the upcoming days. I hope these will further substantiate the challenges I faced during this period. I deeply value this course and the learning opportunities it has provided. However, I believe a late drop is the most appropriate course of action to ensure my academic transcript reflects my capabilities under normal circumstances.
