Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Hello,

I am requesting to drop POLS 250 with absolutely zero financial or academic repercussion.

On September 21st, 2024 my friend and I were assaulted on our way back home by a group of men. I was beaten severely and left on the road until both police and ambulance had to bring me to the hospital. I woke up in the hospital covered in blood with a broken nose, concussion and potential brain damage. For the next week I was bed-ridden and requested long term academic consideration, which I was granted from Sep 22-Oct 14. I went into surgery nearly 2 weeks after the incident where I had my nose fixed. Following the surgery I requested additional academic consideration as per the instructions of my surgeon. Post-surgery, my concussion symptoms became worse and I requested additional academic consideration from Oct 12 - Dec 14, which I was granted. During this time, I stayed in contact with all of my professors for my other classes (Hlth 101, Devs 101, CLST 102) I created a plan with each professor so I could catch up on any work that I was unable to complete. I reached out to My professor, Colin Farrelly, My T.A and the Pols 250 academic consideration department nearly 10 times in which almost all of my emails went unanswered. I clearly stated that I would be unable to write the mid-term, attend the tutorials or complete any assignments. On Dec 3rd I wrote to Professor Farrelly and in our first correspondence, he informed me that there was nothing that I could do because the course was over.

I find the way that my extenuating circumstance has been handled by Professor Farrelly and the Pols 250 department to be shameful. I have already paid for the course in full, and I was unable to complete the course work due to my concussion. I was under the impression that my academic consideration was still applicable to my coursework especially since the exam for the class does not occur until the 14th.

I expect my request to be fulfilled as I see it as the only possible outcome. If you wish to see documentation from the hospital, or would like to meet in person, let me know.
