Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Dear Academic Appeal Committee,
I am writing to petition for a re-evaluation of two assignments in my PHIL 378 class. The assignments in question are mini research paper 1 and mini research paper 2. Upon submitting my first research paper, I received a grade of zero due to the alleged use of AI. I promptly scheduled a meeting with my professor to address this issue, as I was confident that the paper was written solely by me. During the meeting, it was determined that AI was not used; however, a few sources were cited incorrectly. I was given the opportunity to rewrite the paper. It is important to note that during this meeting, my professor brought up some citations he found to be incorrect when he opened the assignment, but these same citations were correct on my end. For example, when he clicked on footnote 2, he would see the citation for footnote 5. The footnotes appeared to be mixed up on his side, which was not the case on my end. We were unable to determine the cause of this discrepancy, but my professor allowed me to rewrite the paper.
At this time, the due date for the second research paper was also approaching. I wrote and submitted my second research paper and, in the following week, rewrote and submitted my first research paper. Both papers required Chicago style footnote citations with multiple sources per paper. I received my grades for both papers on November 29th and 30th, respectively. On both papers, I received a 70% with deductions for incorrect citations only. I then reached out to clarify which citations were incorrect and personally reviewed both papers to identify any citation mistakes.
In paper 1, I found three citation mistakes:
In footnote 5, I cited a quote from an article called
