Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Hello,
My name is Clarke Smith and I am a third-year undergrad student. This semester has been one of the most challenging experiences of my life, as I had to attend trial to testify as the victim of an assault case. With this not only was my mental health in bad standing, but my physical health as well, unable to keep down food or eat due to the depression and anxiety I was facing. I talked with all of my professors before the trial updating them on what was currently going on with me, and explaining the struggles I had been facing. I was guided to try and drop a class as I has already fallen far behind and intened on doing this as a next step. Two days after this I had to travel to Toronto, to attend the trial where I had learned not only was the man who assualted me, claiming he did no such thing, but had a group of friends who were once mine, testify against me. With this my mental helath further declined, and I entered a multi-week long depressive episode. With the academic consideration I recieved from the school I had a three day allownace period to miss- classes, but I feel as though this did not take into account the mental trauma I was having to suffer through. Last monday on December 2nd, I decided I was going to try and do my best to do everything I could to assure I could finish this semester in good academic standing and went to drop two of my classes, as I knew I would be unable to pass these classes. I discovered I had a hold on my account and would be unable to drop the classes in time as I now had to collect the money for the hold, as well as wait for the transfer to go through. I am wirtting to you as I am hoping I will be able to drop these courses, and re-take them in the upcoming year. I hope I will be able to demonstrate my willingness and desire to complete my eduaction. I have also attached documentation for the trial, as well as emails from my detective stating how the trial went for longer than a three day period, as the verdict took almost a month to announce, and was only read this past Friday, December 6th.
Thank you for your consideration,
Clarke Smith
