Petition Letter: Hello,

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to formally request the removal of ASTR 101 from my transcript due to extenuating medical circumstances that significantly impacted my performance during the final exam.

Throughout the term, I consistently demonstrated strong academic performance in ASTR 101, earning high grades on assignments, quizzes, and midterm assessments, and entering the final exam with an A in the course.

However, on the day of the final exam, I experienced a severe panic attack that left me unable to focus and perform at my usual level. This episode was unexpected and significantly impaired my ability to demonstrate my understanding of the course material. As per the letter attached, it is evident that I have a generalized anxiety disorder and panic disorder, which further contributed to the severity of the situation. Consequently, the final grade is not a reflection of my academic efforts nor my overall performance in the class, but rather an extenuating medical circumstance.

Unfortunately, as outlined in the course syllabus, the final exam carried a clause requiring a minimum grade of 45% to pass the course. My inability to meet this requirement was not due to a lack of effort or understanding of the material but rather the result of an acute medical event beyond my control. As such, the final grade does not accurately reflect my dedication to or grasp of the course content.

I am seeking your understanding and approval to have this course removed from my transcript. I believe this action is warranted given the nature of the circumstances and my overall strong academic record.
I have attached supporting documentation, including a note detailing my mental illness and a screenshot of my grades prior to the final exam.
