Petition Letter: To Whom It May Concern,

I am writing to petition to waive the drop date deadline for the Athletic Therapy Practicum course KNPE 430A/B. Both my department's academic advisor, Vanessa McCourt, and the course instructor, Ryan Bennett, are aware of and support my decision to drop the course.

KNPE 430A/B is a full-year course worth six credits, with 430A in the fall and 430B in the winter. The final grade for this course is contingent upon the completion of both semesters. As a Métis scholar and researcher in Indigenous health promotion, my work within three First Nations communities in Manitoba requires frequent travel and active community engagement. The extensive in-person requirements of the practicum have significantly hindered my ability to fulfill my research commitments and travel obligations, far beyond what I had anticipated when enrolling. Balancing this course alongside six others this year has limited my availability, reducing my ability to fully engage with either the course or my research responsibilities. I feel this situation undermines my commitments to both my academic and community roles.

I am requesting permission to drop this course after the official deadline due to a misunderstanding regarding its full-year structure. I assumed the drop deadline would fall in the winter semester, on January 6, 2025. I made my intention to drop the course known in late November but mistakenly believed the process would be completed during the winter term. I respectfully request the removal of KNPE 430A/B from my course load, ideally reflecting the dual-semester nature of the course on my transcript, as I am submitting this request prior to the January 17th drop deadline for winter courses.
