Academic Appeals Committee
Queen's University
Kingston, ON
Dear Members of the Academic Appeals Committee,
I am writing to formally petition for the withdrawal from MATH 112 for Fall 2024. I recognize the importance of my academic progress, and I regret that I am unable to continue with the course under the current circumstances.
Over the past semester, I have faced significant financial challenges at home, which have required me to take on a job to help support my university expenses. As the provider in my household, my father’s income was insufficient to meet the financial needs of my university expenses on top of supporting our seven-member household. Due to these financial pressures, I have been working Monday through Thursday, with additional shifts on Saturday’s. While I understand the importance of academic responsibilities, these work commitments have severely limited the time and energy I can devote to my studies, leading to a negative impact on my academic performance.
This job, though essential to cover my university tuition and expenses, has resulted in increased stress, fatigue, and time constraints, which have directly affected my ability to keep up with the coursework. I have tried to balance my work and academic responsibilities, but I’ve found it difficult to manage the workload.
In light of these challenges, I have made the decision to prioritize my coursework moving forward. I recognize the importance of maintaining a balance between work and academics, and I am committed to focusing on my studies from this point onwards to ensure that I do not face similar difficulties again in the future.
Given these circumstances, I respectfully request permission to withdraw from MATH 112 for this semester without academic penalty. I fully understand the impact this decision may have on my academic journey, but I believe that by prioritizing my coursework moving forward, I will be able to focus more effectively on my studies and achieve better results in the future, even as I continue to manage my financial responsibilities.
Thank you for considering my petition. Please let me know if further documentation or clarification is needed.
Sincerely,
Salem Ismail
