Petition Letter
Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to formally request a switch from the in-person ENGL 112 class to the online ARTF 125 course due to a serious family situation that is impacting my ability to attend and fully participate in class.
Recently, a close family member of mine has fallen seriously ill, which has significantly affected my ability to commute to campus and attend lectures regularly. This situation began shortly after the Christmas break, but unfortunately, it has worsened in the past week, and my circumstances have become increasingly difficult. As a result, I have missed several classes already, and I foresee that I will not be able to attend in the near future due to my need to be present at home to provide support and care.
In addition to the logistical challenges, this situation has also affected my overall wellbeing, particularly my mental health, as I try to balance the responsibilities at home with my academic commitments. I have found it incredibly difficult to focus on my coursework, and the anxiety of missing out on crucial class discussions and assignments is only compounding the stress.
Given these circumstances, I am requesting to transition to an online course to maintain my academic progress. Ideally, I would like to enroll in ARTF 125, as I have prior experience with online learning and believe this format will allow me to manage my coursework more effectively. However, in the event that ARTF 125 is already full, I would be open to joining IDIS 199 as an alternative (I do not wish to be enrolled in both). I believe either of these online courses would allow me to continue my studies while providing the flexibility I need to attend to my family responsibilities.
I truly value the education I am receiving in your course, and I hope you will understand my current situation. I would be grateful for any assistance you can provide in facilitating this change, as it would enable me to continue my academic progress while managing my personal responsibilities.
Thank you for your understanding and consideration.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: Originally, I had planned to pursue a minor in English, but after careful consideration and reflection on my current academic and personal circumstances, I have decided to alter this plan. I believe that shifting my focus will better align with my goals and available resources. Specifically, I will no longer be pursuing the English minor, as my interests and priorities have shifted. Both of the online course options allow me to explore these interests, this decision also reflecting the changing demands on my time, especially considering the personal challenges I am currently facing.
As I have already enrolled in one online course this semester, I have come to realize that the flexibility of online learning better suits my situation moving forward. With two in-person classes already on my schedule, managing both the in-person requirements and my other commitments has become increasingly difficult. Swapping ENGL for an online course format offers me the adaptability I need to balance my academic responsibilities while also addressing personal and family obligations.
Given my previous experience with online studies, I feel confident in my ability to succeed in this format, and I believe that continuing to pursue online courses will allow me to maintain my academic progress while mitigating some of the challenges I currently face. I would like to explore the possibility of adjusting my course load and schedule to incorporate more online classes for the remainder of my academic career, if feasible.
Thank you for your understanding and consideration.
