Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,
I am writing to petition for a course swap in the current Winter term, replacing HIST 241 with HIST 207.
Last week, I realized I needed to add a sixth course this term in order to graduate this Spring. After consulting with an Academic Advisor, I registered for HIST 241 on Friday, January 19th, just before the course-add deadline. However, after attending the first lecture, I realized this course is not be suitable for me. The topics covered were unfamiliar and highly complex, making it difficult for me to catch up effectively at this stage. Additionally, the teaching format, where students are frequently called upon to answer questions, caused me significant anxiety during the lecture.
Swapping HIST 241 with HIST 207 is essential to ensure my academic success this semester. I am confident that I can transition smoothly into HIST 207 as it is an online course with resources readily available on OnQ, allowing me to catch up on missed content without difficulty.
I understand this request is being made past the course-swap deadline, but I kindly ask for your consideration of my circumstances. This adjustment is critical for me to succeed in all my courses and stay on track for graduation.
Thank you for your time and understanding. Please let me know if further discussion is needed to support this request.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: To ensure my success in HIST 207, I will begin by catching up on all missed content. Since this is an online course with materials available on OnQ, I will dedicate the first two weeks to thoroughly reviewing lectures, readings and assignments released so far. Additionally, I will draw on my previous academic experience, as I have taken multiple courses on Indigenous peoples. This background provides me with a solid foundation of knowledge, which I will use to engage more deeply with the course topics and quickly grasp new concepts. Combining focused review and my prior understanding, I am confident in my ability to succeed in this course.
