Petition Letter
Petition Letter: I am writing this petition letter to kindly request my placement into IDIS 199, even though the add/drop period has passed. I had added the course before January 17th; however, I was placed on the waitlist. Today, January 20th, when I checked my schedule, I noticed that the course was no longer listed. I understand this may have occurred due to my status on the waitlist after the add period, but I was confused as to why it had been removed, as this has never happened to me.
I take full responsibility for not ensuring that the course was firmly added to my schedule earlier. Nevertheless, I want to emphasize the significance of IDIS 199 to my academic and personal growth. This course is a vital part of my academic requirements, fulfilling my non-commerce elective credits. Beyond fulfilling a requirement, I have a strong personal and academic interest in this subject. Since my first year of university, I have been attempting to enroll in this course, and unfortunately, each attempt has been unsuccessful due to high demand.
The content of IDIS 199 is particularly meaningful to me. Many of my classmates across a multitude programs have spoken highly of the course, emphasizing its importance in understanding mental health. Mental health is a critical issue that affects students in various ways, myself included. Like many others, I have faced challenges in maintaining a healthy balance between academic responsibilities and mental wellbeing. This course allows us to understand the science of how our brains work and provides tools for fostering mental well-being, which is incredibly valuable. I believe that the knowledge and skills gained from this course will not only benefit my academic performance but also contribute to my overall personal development.
I would like to explain the extenuating circumstances that contributed to my failure to secure my spot in IDIS 199. At the beginning of January, I was returning from a semester abroad. Having been away for an extended period, I underestimated the challenges of reintegrating into my academic and personal life at home. Adjusting to the time difference, organizing my academic schedule, and settling back into a routine proved more difficult than I had anticipated. The process of transitioning back to life here took a toll on my mental and physical energy, which, in turn, affected my ability to promptly finalize my course schedule.
The effects of this transition were significant. During the first few weeks of January, I struggled with disrupted sleep patterns, low energy levels, and a sense of disorientation. These challenges, though temporary, hindered my ability to focus and manage my academic responsibilities effectively. I realize now that I should have reached out to academic advisors or sought guidance on ensuring my enrolment . However, at the time, I was preoccupied with readjusting and did not take the proactive steps necessary to secure my place.
I want to reiterate that my interest in IDIS 199 goes beyond fulfilling a degree requirement. Mental health is a deeply personal topic for me, and I am eager to gain a deeper understanding of it through this course.
I kindly request that you consider my petition I am confident that, given the opportunity, I will make the most of this course and contribute meaningfully to the classroom environment.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: Since my extenuating circumstance was temporary, I have developed an academic plan to ensure consistent progress moving forward. First, I will maintain regular communication with my academic advisor to stay informed about important deadlines and course registration procedures. Second, I will create a detailed academic calendar to track key dates and responsibilities, helping me prioritize tasks and avoid potential oversights. Third, I will participate in workshops or resources offered by the university to improve time management and organizational skills., if need be Lastly, I will continue to prioritize my mental and physical well-being by utilizing campus resources, such as counseling services, to maintain a healthy balance between academics and personal life.I have also worked on establishing a structured routine to manage my time and responsibilities more effectively. These efforts have helped me regain stability and confidence in my ability to meet academic expectations.
Additionally, since I know fully understand how the enrolment process works when being waitlisted, I will make sure to plan out my future courses and schedule accordingly.
I am committed to putting in the effort required to excel in IDIS 199 and my other courses and to applying the knowledge gained to support my own well-being and that of my peers.
