Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Good Afternoon,

I am writing to respectfully request your permission to add in ECON 250 to my schedule this semester. I fully understand that the add period has ended, but this course is essential for my progression in my major, as it is a prerequisite for the upper-level courses that I must take in order to graduate.

I previously took ECON 250 during the fall semester but was unfortunately unable to pass. By the time I realized that the same class was being offered during the winter semester, the add period had already closed. The delay between the add deadline and the submission of this petition stems from the information I received from the administration. I was informed that I should reach out directly to the course professor as well as to the undergraduate chair before submitting a petition. However, after doing so, I was informed by the professor and the undergraduate chair that I would need to submit the formal petition first rather than contacting them directly. Due to this mix-up, I was unable to submit my petition at an earlier date.

I would like to stress the importance this course has on my academic progression, as I will be unable to enroll into 3rd year required economics courses that are needed in order to graduate in this major. I recognize both the importance of sticking to university policies and deadlines, as well realizing that this request is not a small matter. However, I want to assure you that I am fully committed to dedicating the time and effort required to succeed in this course. Thank you for taking the time to consider my request, and review my petition.
