Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Queen’s University Faculty of Arts and Science Office,

I am writing to formally petition for a change in one of my courses from PHAR 100 (Pharmacology) to either IDIS 173, ENIN 140, or CLST 150. This request is due to extenuating circumstances that have significantly impacted my ability to perform effectively in PHAR 100 and my overall academic experience this semester.

During this semester, I encountered challenges related to my ADHD diagnosis that were exacerbated by the nature of PHAR 100. The course’s structure, which requires sustained focus and retention of detailed pharmacological concepts, proved particularly difficult to manage despite my consistent efforts to utilize my academic accommodations and support resources. These challenges were further compounded by an increased course load and the difficulty of balancing academic commitments with personal responsibilities. As a result, I found it increasingly challenging to maintain the level of focus and retention required to succeed in this course.

These circumstances have directly impacted my ability to fully engage with the material and meet the course requirements to my usual academic standard. While I have taken proactive steps, such as consulting with academic advisors, utilizing my approved accommodations, and seeking additional academic support, it has become clear that continuing in PHAR 100 is not conducive to my academic success.

Switching to one or two of the proposed courses (IDIS 173, ENIN 140, or CLST 150) would provide a more manageable and balanced academic experience while still meeting my degree requirements. These courses align better with my strengths and current needs, offering an opportunity to maintain academic progress without compromising the quality of my learning.

I have attached my ADHD academic accommodation forms, signed by my doctor, as supporting documentation. Please let me know if additional information is required to process this request.

Thank you for considering my petition. I appreciate your understanding and support in this matter.

Sincerely,

Morgan Koladich

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: To ensure success moving forward, I plan to take a lighter course load and focus on courses that align with my strengths, such as IDIS 173, ENIN 140, or CLST 150. I will continue using my academic accommodations, including extended time for assignments and exams, and stay in regular contact with my academic advisor for guidance.

I’ll also work with my healthcare provider to manage my ADHD symptoms and improve time management and organization. Additionally, I’ll use campus resources like study workshops and peer tutoring to stay on track.

These steps will help me manage my workload more effectively and achieve my academic goals.
