Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,
I am writing to formally request a third-party review of my final exam for BIOL 330. I have attempted to address my concerns through the informal review process by contacting my instructor and the course email on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at 12:35 PM, received a reply on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at 8:52 AM stating not everyone has written the deferred exams yet, and hence I am not allowed to review the exam. To which I replied asking for the average of the midterm, and whether I was going to be reached out to when the deferred exams were all written on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at 5:17 PM. I had received no email, hence I followed up with an informal appeal on Monday, January 27, 2025 at 8:00 AM, and once again I have not received any response. Additionally, I was not given the opportunity to review my final exam, which prevents me from identifying specific concerns regarding the grading. Given these circumstances, I am requesting an independent reassessment of my exam to ensure fairness and accuracy in the grading process.

Grounds for Reconsideration:
I acknowledge that final exams play a crucial role in determining overall performance in the course. However, without access to my exam, I am unable to verify whether my responses were graded appropriately. Given that I have concerns about my final grade and have not been given the opportunity to review my work, I believe a reassessment is necessary to ensure that my performance was evaluated fairly.

Attempts to Resolve the Issue:
On January 7, 2025 , I contacted BIOL330@queensu.ca to request a review of my final exam, was answered one week later, and then when I asked follow up questions, have not been responded to
I followed up on January 27, 2025, but I did not receive a response.
Without access to my exam, I am unable to determine whether grading errors were made, reinforcing the need for an independent review.

Request for Next Steps:
I respectfully request a third-party evaluation of my final exam. If necessary, I am also requesting the opportunity to review my exam under faculty supervision so that I can better understand my grade and, if appropriate, provide further justification for my appeal.
