Petition Letter: Dear Art & Sciences Petition Comitte,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to formally request an exception to add IDIS 199 to my schedule past the add/drop deadline. As a second-year Life Sciences student at Queen’s University, I am deeply committed to my academic growth and personal development. Given my unique circumstances as a student who commutes home to Toronto every weekend due to family obligations, I believe that IDIS 199 would provide me with an invaluable opportunity to engage with the university community in a meaningful way while also complementing my current course load.
Unfortunately, due to the challenges of balancing going home every single weekend, training conferences and academic responsibilities, I was unable to finalize my decision to enroll in IDIS 199 before the deadline. However, after further consideration and discussions with peers who have taken the course, I have come to realize that this seminar aligns perfectly with both my academic and personal goals. The interdisciplinary approach of IDIS 199 fosters critical thinking and collaboration—skills that are essential for my aspirations in the health sciences. Furthermore, the opportunity to engage in open discussions and experiential learning would help bridge the gap caused by my frequent commuting, allowing me to build a stronger connection to the Queen’s academic environment.
I understand that the add/drop date has passed, and I sincerely appreciate the administrative challenges that come with making exceptions. However, I am fully prepared to catch up on any missed material and actively participate in all course activities. I have already reviewed the syllabus and to ensure I am up to speed with the course expectations.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: This fits into my academic plan as I will be making up a course by adding IDIS 199. I have to make up a few courses already so this course fits great. As of now I have to make up 5 courses. If I am able to take IDIS 199 this number reduces to 4. By the time I would go on exchange I could get this number to 2. This number includes core courses as well. It will be a lot easier for me to graduate on time and have an exchange experience after having a rough start with academics and family here at Queen's. I have planned out my next 3 years at Queen's and IDIS 199 would be a perfect fit to keep me on track. I am aware I may have missed deadlines in the course, but I am okay with having a few percent docked as this course will take me forward! I dropped my Stats class to take it in the summer to focus only on that. IDIS 199 is a course I feel confident I will do exceptional in, if given a chance. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do!
