Petition Letter: Hello,
I’m requesting a late drop for the course CHEM 213 which I took in the fall of 2024. I’ve been struggling a lot with my anxiety and OCD over the past year, which resulted in me developing a phobia of this class. The anxiety and panic attacks this caused resulted in me missing almost all of the classes and tutorials, which made up a significant portion of the grade, about 40%. I was actively working with a therapist during this time to try and reduce the anxiety going to this class gave me, but it did not seem to be working. I tried my best to keep up with the course material from home, and completed all of the labs and assignments I could, but could not make up the tutorials. I spoke with my accommodations advisor, and my professor, and we decided that I would late drop the course as I did not have the knowledge I should have, due to the amount of missed classes, to do well on the exam, and already missed 30% of my grade worth of tutorials. I’m working on my anxiety, and mental health in hopes this does not happen again, and am planning to retake the course, but my GPA is impacted by the current grade which I do not think reflects my actual academic standing.
