Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean (Academic),
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to formally request a late drop from LAW 201: Introduction to Canadian Law, which I initially registered for in the Summer 2024 term as part of my certificate program in Law.
My health has significantly deteriorated since the beginning of summer 2024, worsening my long-standing conditions of severe anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder. These challenges have severely impaired my focus, concentration, and overall ability to understand complex materials. Additionally, I have been grappling with paroxysmal hallucinations and narcolepsy, further hindering my day-to-day functionality.
Professor Rachel Law graciously extended my assignment and finial exam deadlines to December 31, 2024, to accommodate my circumstances. However, during after the summer till the beginning of the February 2025, I was hospitalized and unable to access any electronic devices, making it impossible for me to complete my coursework on time.
Upon my discharge, I immediately reached out to both Professor Law and Amanda Blair, the coordinator of the Law Certificate Program. By then, however, I had fallen significantly behind and was unable to catch up with the course materials. Despite their willingness to support, further extensions were not feasible under the professor's authority. At that time, Professor Law has to submit my unfinished assignments and final exam because of the medical reasons to have a F on my transcript. Professor Law and Amanda recommended that I pursue a late drop and consider re-registering for the course when my health allows me to fully engage with the material.
I have since been connected with Lise Yeatman from the Student Service Division, who has guided me on applying for this petition. With the support of my instructors and the faculty of law, I am hopeful that this request will be granted, allowing me to focus on my recovery and upcoming graduation in April 2025.
I am deeply grateful for your understanding and the continual support of the faculty during this challenging time. Thank you very much for considering my situation and for any assistance you can provide regarding my late drop petition.
