Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: To Whom It May Concern,

I am writing to request academic consideration due to personal challenges that have significantly impacted my studies. From October 2024 to January 2025, I experienced severe mental health challenges and family difficulties that were beyond my control, making it difficult to focus, complete assignments, and perform well in my course. The overall stress of these situations impeded my ability to complete the BCHM270 course this past fall.

In October 2024, I experienced mental health challenges that persisted until early November 2024. This impacted my ability to complete my midterm examination and some assignments during the course. I connected with my psychotherapist for support at this time. I reached out to my course instructor, who shared it would be possible to submit assignments at a later point and that the weight of the midterm examination would be pushed to the final examination.

In late November 2024, I experienced a familial issue, that had continued to have an impact on me into January 2025. This affected my ability to complete my final exam and deferred exam opportunity. My course instructor supported me through this process, allowing extra time to complete the examinations. Furthermore, as per my request, she was able to connect me with a tutor for additional support, since the course had officially ended. I sought support from my psychotherapist and family doctor for these challenges.

Despite my efforts to manage these challenges, including seeking support from my course instructor, primary care physician, and psychotherapist, I was unable to maintain my usual academic standards at the time. I would like to note that I have previously completed an undergraduate degree in 2020 and my MSc in 2023 at different institutions.

I have attached supporting documentation to verify these circumstances and their impact on my academics. Additionally, I have connected with my course instructor, who has agreed to support my successful completion of the course. Given the severity of my circumstances, I kindly request an extension of my incomplete grade or a deferred exam beyond one term.

I appreciate your time and consideration of my petition. I am committed to taking the necessary steps to improve my academic performance and ensure my well-being moving forward. Please let me know if any additional information is required to support my request.
