Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Dear Dr. Jenn Stephenson,
I am writing this petition to respectfully request the waiver of the deadline for submitting a petition, as I was unable to meet it due to significant personal challenges during my first year of studies. I would like to explain the circumstances that contributed to missing this deadline and why I believe my request should be considered.
During my first year at Queen’s University, I faced immense difficulty adjusting to the demands of university life. The transition to a new environment was overwhelming, and I struggled to manage the stress that came with balancing academics, personal well-being, and adapting to an unfamiliar city. The emotional strain was significant, leading to extreme stress and affecting my ability to focus on my studies. I often returned home to seek comfort and relief, but each time I came back to Kingston, I found myself physically and mentally exhausted, further impairing my academic performance.
It was not until my second year that I began to realize the importance of seeking support. I took proactive steps to improve my situation by attending the Student Academic Success Services (SASS) and seeking therapy. Through these resources, I learned about options such as late course withdrawal, which I was previously unaware of. I was able to receive guidance from academic advising, which opened my eyes to the support available and the resources that could have alleviated some of the pressure I faced in my first year.
Unfortunately, by the time I became aware of these options, I had already missed the opportunity to take advantage of them for my earlier coursework. I deeply regret not reaching out sooner and not utilizing the support available to me at the time.
I am committed to improving my academic performance and well-being moving forward, and I sincerely hope that you will consider my request to waive the petition deadline. The challenges I faced were not a reflection of my dedication to my studies, but rather the result of personal difficulties that I have worked hard to overcome. I am confident that with the support I now have, I will be able to succeed moving forward.
Thank you for considering my petition. I am happy to provide any additional documentation or meet to discuss my situation further. I truly appreciate your understanding and the opportunity to continue my academic journey at Queen’s.
Sincerely,
Akshayaa Suntharathas
