A. The Request:

Dear Associate Dean’s,

I am petitioning for permission to enroll in more than 6.0 units of courses on a letter of permission through another institution during the upcoming summer term. As a student in good standing with a current cumulative GPA exceeding 1.75—and an anticipated increase to approximately 1.9 or 2.0 following my current term, during which I am enrolled in three courses (including two repeat courses)—I am seeking this opportunity to facilitate my graduation in Fall 2025. Additionally, I respectfully request that the current 9.0-unit limit for part-time enrollment be waived to accommodate this plan.

B. Explanation of Extenuating Circumstances:

The purpose of this petition is to complete the four core courses 12.0 units required for my degree. These include three elective options and one core course in Statistics, all of which are essential components of my degree plan. I have identified the following courses for the summer term:

• Three courses at Athabasca University
Between 400 and 300 level
• One course at the University of Toronto
300 level

I respectfully request that the current 9.0-unit limit for part-time enrollment be waived for the summer term, thereby allowing me to register for the four essential courses required for my degree. Completing these courses in the summer is critical, as my original plan for this term was not feasible, and delaying further would jeopardize my goal of graduating by Fall 2025. Having been a student at Queen’s for six years, I am eager to complete my studies without further delay, my family and I have been looking forward to this milestone, and I need to begin my professional career as soon as possible.

I would also like to note that the courses essential to my degree plan are not available at Queen’s University during the summer term. Moreover, several 400-level courses are not offered in the final two terms; however, I have identified these courses at Athabasca University to ensure that I can meet my academic requirements.

Furthermore, if it is not possible to approve enrollment for 12.0 units at another institution, I would appreciate permission to enroll in at least 9.0 units. This flexibility will ensure that I can complete as many of the required courses as possible during the summer term.

This circumstance has arisen due to a combination of factors, including several challenges encountered during the previous academic year and changes in my program. These issues have been detailed in my previous petitions.

C. Future Plan:

Upon successful completion of these summer courses, I will integrate the newly acquired knowledge into my overall degree plan and prepare for my final term at Queen’s University. I have arranged to meet with my academic advisor to ensure that this course load aligns with my long-term academic and career goals. Completing these courses is a crucial step towards achieving a timely graduation in Fall 2025, which is essential for me to start my professional career without further delay. I am committed to maintaining a balanced workload and have already adjusted my study schedule to accommodate the increased unit load responsibly. This petition represents a strategic decision to accelerate my progress, and I am confident that the skills and insights gained from these courses will contribute significantly to my academic success.
